Back Blurb : ‘ … The first hit man came after me at home, which should be against the rules. Then there was a second, and a third. Eventually, I found out that the word on the street was that Anita Blake, preternatural expert and vampire killer extraordinaire, was worth half a million dollars. Dead, not alive. So what’s a girl to do but turn to the men in her life for help? Which in my case, means an alpha werewolf and a master vampire. With professional killers on your trail, it’s not a bad idea to have as much protection as possible, human or otherwise. But I’m beginning to wonder if two monsters are better than one…”
Sentenced in a Sentence :
A solid chapter in the Anita Blake saga – though I would have liked to have seen Anita learn a bit more about her magical inheritance, rather than focus purely on the decision as to which supe (werewolf / vampire) should be her boyf – but as always, Hamilton has written an entertaining story.

I know this isn’t really just a ‘one sentence’ review – but I can’t contain myself. This book is so badly written that every time I even think of it, I die a little inside. I started reading this novel, because it was seriously everywhere I went. People at work were reading it, people on the train, members of my family, people at the supermarket – nearly every person I knew had a copy of this book in their bag. All I can say is – how could you all let me down!! I’ve read some science fiction / fantasy novels that seem to have just as much erotic content to them – so I’m not jumping on the prudish bandwagon, but I’m pretty sure there is some erotic fiction out there that doesn’t read like it’s written by a sixteen-year-old.
Now they’re talking about a movie??!
Save me Jebus.

Next time on the bookshelf : “The Killing Dance” by Laurell K. Hamilton
Back Blurb : ‘… In the early days of the Civil War, rumours of gold in the frozen Klondike brought hordes of newcomers to the Pacific Northwest. Anxious to compete, Russian prospectors commissioned inventor Leviticus Blue to create a great machine that could mine through Alaska’s ice. Thus was Dr. Blue’s Incredible Bone-Shaking Drill Engine born. But on its first test run the Boneshaker went terribly awry, destroying several blocks of downtown Seattle and unearthing a subterranean vein of blight gas that turned anyone who breathed it into the living dead. Now it is sixteen years later, and a wall has been built to enclose the devastated and toxic city. Just beyond it lives Blue’s widow, Briar Wilkes. Life is hard with a ruined reputation and a teenage boy to support, but she and Ezekiel are managing. Until Ezekiel undertakes a secret crusade to rewrite history. His quest will take him under the wall and into a city teeming with ravenous undead, air pirates, criminal overlords, and heavily armed refugees. And only Briar can bring him out alive …’
Sentenced in a Sentence :
Beautifully written, Priest has created a Steampunk-y world where the characters are both brave and humble – and describes a broken landscape where the blight-ridden zombies may have bitten off more than they could chew.
